GenBio AI launches AIDO Cell, a virtual model that simulates whole-cell behavior

GenBio AI, a Palo Alto startup, unveiled AIDO Cell, a virtual cell platform that lets researchers view a cell’s interior like a map. The system visualizes proteins, RNA and DNA and can simulate gene knock‑outs or drug additions to predict changes.

The tool expands on the concept behind AlphaFold, which predicts the three‑dimensional shape of single proteins. AIDO Cell attempts to model the interactions of all molecular components across an entire cell.

David Baker, a University of Washington scientist and 2024 Nobel Chemistry laureate who co‑founded the company, said the approach moves from predicting a single “house” to understanding how the whole “city” works. The launch is positioned as a step toward accelerating biological research and drug discovery.
