Tempus AI to buy cancer test maker Personalis for $1.5 billion

Tempus AI announced it will acquire Personalis, a California-based company that offers a molecular residual disease test for cancer, in a transaction valued at $1.5 billion.

The deal, priced at $16.25 per share-a roughly 6% premium-includes the option to fund up to half of the consideration in cash and is expected to close in late 2026 or early 2027 pending shareholder and regulatory approvals.

The acquisition builds on a partnership that began in 2023 and reflects growing industry interest in blood-based cancer diagnostics, following recent large purchases such as Abbott’s $21 billion buy of Exact Sciences.
