Advocates warn federal HIV prevention funding cuts could force community groups to close

Community-based organizations that deliver HIV testing and prevention tools are urging federal health officials to restore a key funding program that recently expired.

Advocates say the lapse threatens expanded access to preventive care and could force some groups to shut down.

Jeremiah Johnson, executive director of PrEP4All, warned that several community groups have told him they may not survive the cuts.

The administration is shifting some of the funding to states, but critics argue the reduction undermines the goal set in 2019 to end the HIV epidemic.
