FTC and Four State Attorneys General Sue Transgender Health Group Over Alleged Misleading Claims

Jun 17, 2026·read at STAT ↗RegulatoryNegative

The Federal Trade Commission, together with attorneys general from Alaska, Iowa, Nebraska and Texas, filed a lawsuit on Wednesday in a Texas federal court against the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).

The complaint accuses WPATH of making false statements to market gender-affirming medical services to minors, claiming it misrepresented the benefits and risks of surgeries and hormone therapies to children and their parents.

The suit is part of a broader effort by the current administration to restrict gender-affirming care for minors, and it seeks injunctive relief and possible penalties for the alleged deceptive practices.

WPATH, the leading professional organization that sets standards for clinicians providing gender-affirming care, has not yet responded publicly to the allegations.
