FDA greenlights Colorado's plan to import prescription drugs from Canada to lower costs

The FDA announced Monday that Colorado will be allowed to bring in certain prescription medicines from Canada, aiming to reduce drug prices for state residents.

This decision makes Colorado the second state to receive such authorization, following Florida's earlier approval in 2024, though Florida has not yet begun importing.

The move builds on a 2020 regulation that permitted states and tribal nations to propose import programs, a policy first endorsed under the Trump administration and continued by the Biden administration.

Advocates hope the program will provide cheaper alternatives for patients, while regulators will monitor safety and supply chain standards.
