Sensorion drops OTOF gene therapy to focus on GJB2-targeted hearing loss candidate after Regeneron approval

Jun 11, 2026·read at BioPharma Dive ↗Neutral

Sensorion said it is ending development of its gene therapy SENS-501 for OTOF related hearing loss after a strategic review. The review concluded that the competitive landscape had changed significantly.

Regeneron recently received approval for its Otarmeni therapy and will provide it at no cost in the United States, which altered the market dynamics for rare deafness treatments.

In response, Sensorion will shift its focus to SENS-601, a candidate intended for the more common form of hereditary deafness caused by GJB2 mutations. The company noted that no approved therapy exists for this condition.

Sensorion believes the unmet need for GJB2 related hearing loss is far larger, and concentrating resources on SENS-601 aligns with its strategic goals.
