Massachusetts voters reject repeal of recreational cannabis sales, keeping industry open

Nov 4, 2026·read at STAT ↗RegulatoryPositive

Voters in Massachusetts decisively rejected Question 8, a ballot initiative that sought to dismantle the state’s recreational cannabis industry.

Approximately 76% of voters cast ballots against the repeal while about 24% supported it, with close to 90% of votes counted.

Had the measure passed, adult‑use cannabis shops would have been required to close by the start of 2028.

While much of the country experienced a blue wave, this result marked a green victory for cannabis consumers and industry workers in the state.
