Lilly's retatrutide outperforms Ozempic in weight loss and blood sugar reduction in head-to-head diabetes trial
Eli Lilly reported that its experimental drug retatrutide showed greater efficacy than Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic in a large diabetes trial.
After 80 weeks, participants receiving the highest dose of retatrutide experienced a 2.2-point drop in A1c, compared with a 1.8-point decline for those on Ozempic.
The same high dose group also lost 20.9% of body weight, while the Ozempic group lost 9.4%.
The results reflect analyses of participants who remained on treatment throughout the study, not the full intent-to-treat population.
The data positions retatrutide as a potential major growth driver for Lilly in the competitive obesity-diabetes market.
