Patient-focused AI apps turn smartphones into real-time visit scribes

Jun 4, 2026·read at STAT ↗DealPositive

More than a quarter of U.S. medical practices now rely on AI-powered ambient scribes that record appointments and draft clinical notes for doctors. The technology, initially deployed for clinicians, is now being repurposed for patients.

Consumer apps such as VisitRecall, Advoca Health and AlignCare use commercial large‑language models to transcribe audio captured on a phone and generate concise summaries and action items for patients after their visits.

One of these startups, Kin Health, which received backing from the co‑founder of GoodRx, announced a $9 million seed financing round in May, underscoring growing investor interest in patient‑direct AI tools.
