Oculis’ investigational eye drop OCS-01 fails Phase 3 trials for diabetic macular edema, shares tumble

Oculis announced that its experimental eye drop OCS-01 did not meet primary endpoints in two Phase 3 studies aimed at treating diabetic macular edema.

The trials were intended to evaluate the drug’s ability to reduce retinal swelling and improve visual acuity in patients with DME, but the data showed no statistically significant benefit over control.

Following the disclosure, Oculis’ share price fell sharply, reflecting investor disappointment in the setback for the company’s pipeline.

The failure underscores the challenges of developing non-injectable therapies for DME, a condition that currently relies on intravitreal injections.

Oculis has not detailed next steps, but the outcome may prompt a reassessment of its development strategy for OCS-01.
