Experts say Grail’s multi-cancer blood test not yet ready for routine screening

At the ASCO 2026 meeting in Chicago, Grail presented its multi-cancer early detection blood test, which the company markets as a tool to identify several cancers at an early stage.

Independent experts who were not involved in the development cautioned that the test still falls short of the criteria needed for widespread screening, citing concerns about sensitivity, specificity, and clinical utility.

Analysts noted that further validation studies and regulatory review are required before the assay can be adopted in standard practice.

Until those hurdles are addressed, Grail’s test is unlikely to be incorporated into routine cancer screening programs.
