Maryland board caps Ozempic price at $274 per month, aiming to save $5.8 million annually

Maryland's Prescription Drug Affordability Board announced a price ceiling for Ozempic, a type 2 diabetes medication.

The cap limits the cost of a 30‑day supply to $274, a figure based on Medicare’s maximum fair price, and is slated to take effect by January 2027.

Board officials estimate the measure will reduce state spending by about $5.8 million each year.

The board also signaled plans to consider similar caps for other high‑cost drugs in the commercial market starting in 2028.
