Bexorg receives $28 million ARPA-H grant to extend testing of revived human brain tissue
Bexorg, a biotech focused on brain research, was awarded $28 million by the U.S. Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H). The funding will support longer-duration experiments on human brain tissue that has been "rebooted" to restore cellular activity after death.
The concept of reviving brain cells was first demonstrated seven years ago, overturning the long-standing belief that brain cells decay immediately after death. Co-founders Nenad Sestan and Zvonimir Vrselja have built on that work to develop methods that keep the tissue alive for extended study.
With the new grant, Bexorg plans to run prolonged tests that could improve understanding of neural function and disease mechanisms, potentially opening new avenues for therapeutic development.
