Bayer invests $2.2 billion in Ohio to build pharma manufacturing plant
Bayer announced a $2.2 billion investment to construct a new pharmaceutical manufacturing complex in New Albany, Ohio.
The plant will produce drug substances and finished products for oncology, cardiovascular disease and renal care, with the first drug‑substance module slated to start up in 2031 and a second module in 2034. Bayer plans to embed digital and automation technologies throughout the site.
The project is expected to generate roughly 600 high‑skill permanent positions and about 1,500 construction jobs during the build‑out. The Ohio Life Science Training Center, opening next summer, will train biomanufacturing operators and technicians to staff the facility.
JobsOhio is contributing up to $30 million to the training center and highlighted the state’s ready workforce as a key factor in Bayer’s location decision.
