HHS launches SURPASS program to accelerate clinical trials using AI and adaptive designs

HHS announced a new five-year initiative called SURPASS, aimed at speeding up and expanding clinical trials by leveraging artificial intelligence and computational modeling.

The program, run through the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health, will solicit innovative proposals from interdisciplinary teams in statistics, AI, trial design, operations, and regulation, with a focus on moving away from rigid trial phases.

While funding levels and specific participant support were not disclosed, officials said the effort is intended to help the United States keep pace with other nations, such as China, in clinical research efficiency.
