Global Mix Inc. recalls Niwali Tejocote supplements after FDA finds toxic yellow oleander content

Global Mix Inc., based in Middle Village, New York, announced a recall of its Niwali Tejocote Capsules and Pieces, both marketed as herbal dietary supplements.

The FDA’s analysis indicated the products contain material identified as Thevetia peruviana, commonly known as yellow oleander, a plant whose all parts contain potent cardiac glycosides that are highly toxic.

Ingestion of yellow oleander can cause serious neurological, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular effects, including nausea, vomiting, dizziness, arrhythmia and potentially fatal outcomes.

The recalled items were sold online through eBay and Everymarket, with only five units (two capsule bottles and three piece packages) reported sold. Because the marketplaces do not share buyer contact information, the company cannot directly notify all purchasers.

Consumers who may have purchased the supplements are advised to stop using them and contact a healthcare professional if they experience any symptoms.
