Biopharma workers increasingly postpone retirement, poll shows 52% plan to stay longer

Biopharma professionals are rethinking retirement, with a BioSpace LinkedIn poll indicating that 52% expect to retire later than originally planned. Overall, 63% of respondents said they have changed their retirement timeline.

A similar trend appears in a MyPerfectResume survey of 1,000 U.S. workers, where 48% adjusted their plans and a larger share now anticipate retiring later rather than earlier.

Career coaches attribute the shift to factors such as confidence in future career opportunities, recent layoffs, and personal financial considerations. Those who see a clear path forward in their specialty are more likely to extend their working years.

The findings suggest that retirement expectations among biopharma staff are moving later, reflecting broader workforce dynamics in the industry.
