AAM warns that price pressures threaten sustainability of US generics and biosimilars market

The Association for Accessible Medicines (AAM) issued its annual report warning that the economics of off‑patent drugs have deteriorated, putting the sustainability of the generic and biosimilar market at risk.

AAM points out that three major buyers control about 90% of the traditional generic market and two‑thirds of specialty generic revenue, creating constant downward pricing pressure that pushes prices below sustainable levels.

The group cautions that without policy action, the United States could see supply chain disruptions, drug shortages, or even a withdrawal of manufacturers from the market, jeopardizing affordable healthcare.

AAM calls on policymakers to roll back the risks and threats facing the industry to preserve the backbone of affordable medicines.
