Northwest Naturals recalls frozen cat and dog chicken diets over possible Salmonella and Listeria contamination

Northwest Naturals of Portland, Oregon announced a voluntary recall of two frozen pet food products after detecting possible bacterial contamination.

The recall includes 53 cases (1,272 lb) of frozen chicken recipe cat food and 19 cases (684 lb) of frozen raw diet for dogs, both flagged for potential Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

These bacteria can affect animals and pose a health risk to people handling the food. Symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever, and severe infections can require hospitalization.
