Outer Bio unveils skin‑tissue platform that keeps samples alive for a month, creating terabytes of data for skincare research

Aug 27, 2026·read at BioPharma Dive ↗Positive

Outer Bio, a new biotech founded by Michael Polansky, has emerged from stealth to offer a skin‑focused platform that maintains harvested human skin tissue alive for about a month.

The company says the tissue retains its structure and resident immune cells, unlike typical samples that degrade within a week, allowing more realistic studies of inflammation and injury responses.

Using artificial‑intelligence tools to screen millions of compounds, Outer Bio pairs each compound with the long‑living tissue, producing over 30,000 data points per pairing and has already generated more than 10 terabytes of data from over 300 donors and 10,000 potential treatments.

While the platform is positioned for skincare ingredient discovery, the company notes the data could also be valuable for pharmaceutical research into skin conditions.
