Vitruvias Therapeutics shuts down after recalling potentially superpotent thyroid tablets

Vitruvias Therapeutics announced it is ceasing operations and has voluntarily recalled a batch of its generic thyroid tablets because the product may be superpotent.

The recall covers 3,655 units from a single lot of 30 mg tablets that were distributed across the United States last year. Testing showed the tablets could deliver higher than intended hormone levels.

Excess thyroid hormone can cause symptoms of overactive thyroid such as weight loss, muscle weakness, rapid heart rate, heat intolerance and heart rhythm disturbances, which are especially risky for seniors, pregnant women and infants.

The company is transferring all its remaining products to H2-Pharma as part of the shutdown, while the recall remains in effect to protect patients.
