Hansoh says China’s biopharma is shifting from follower to frontrunner, now behind 30% of investigational drugs

Hansoh Pharmaceutical used its first‑half earnings release to claim that China’s innovative biopharma sector is moving from a follower role to a frontrunner position.

The company highlighted that Chinese projects now represent about 30% of all investigational medicines, underscoring a rapid rise in domestic drug discovery and development.

Market data cited by Hansoh suggests Chinese assets could account for more than two‑thirds of global licensing‑deal value this year, up from 50% last year and a mere 5% five years ago.

Hansoh’s own activity reflects the trend, with recent licensing agreements with GSK, Merck, Regeneron, Roche and smaller firms such as Avere Therapeutics.
