Eli Lilly launches oral obesity drug Foundayo in the UK

Eli Lilly has introduced its oral weight‑loss pill Foundayo to the United Kingdom market, positioning the small‑molecule therapy as a price‑sensitive alternative to injectable options.

The UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency approved Foundayo earlier this month for adults with obesity or overweight who have at least one weight‑related condition, and it is also indicated for type 2 diabetes. Initially the drug will be available only via private prescriptions while Lilly engages with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence on public coverage.

Foundayo received U.S. approval in April, marking the next phase of the rivalry with Danish rival Novo Nordisk in the oral obesity space. Analysts see the UK launch as a strategic move that could help Lilly compete more effectively on margins and market share.
