Mass General and Dana-Farber CEOs receive record compensation in 2024 amid hospital cost pressures

Newly released compensation records show that chief executives of major Massachusetts health systems earned substantially higher pay in 2024.

Dr. Anne Klibanski, the CEO of Mass General Brigham, topped the list as the highest‑paid health‑system executive in the state.

The raises came as hospitals grappled with rising post‑pandemic expenses, thin operating margins and the statewide disruption following the collapse of Steward Health Care, prompting analysts to say the increases reflect market rates for senior leaders.

David E. Williams, president of Health Business Group, noted that attracting talent in a national market is the primary driver behind the higher salaries for these complex organizations.
