Commure ends referral payment program for its AI clinic tools

Commure, a health-software firm valued at about $7 billion, announced it is ending the referral-payment arrangements it had with partners who promoted its artificial-intelligence products to medical clinics.

The decision was communicated via internal emails from chief legal officer Dan Brian, giving partners a 30-day notice that the agreements would cease. Any amounts owed up to the termination date will be paid in full.

The move follows a STAT investigation that highlighted the company’s practice of offering thousands of dollars to customers and other parties for referrals to its AI tools.

Commure did not provide a detailed rationale for the change, but the termination of the program could affect how the company acquires new clinic customers going forward.
