Roche to acquire PathAI for $750 million to boost AI pathology

Roche announced it will acquire Boston based PathAI for an upfront payment of $750 million. The acquisition follows a partnership that began in 2021 and is intended to speed the use of artificial intelligence in pathology.

The deal is expected to close in the second half of the year, with an additional $300 million potentially payable if certain milestones are met.

Roche aims to leverage its global infrastructure to bring PathAI’s digital diagnostic technology to a wider patient base.

PathAI chief executive Andy Beck said the collaboration will enable the company to scale AI-powered pathology and improve patient outcomes worldwide.
