Biopharma job postings rise 15% in Q2 as layoffs fall and M&A activity picks up
The Q2 2026 BioSpace report shows a strengthening biopharma job market, with more openings and fewer layoffs compared with the prior year.
Job postings on BioSpace were up 15% year-over-year and 12% from the previous quarter, marking the third consecutive quarterly gain after 10% and 8% increases in Q4 2025 and Q1 2026.
At least 5,000 pharma positions were listed each month, a level not seen since Q1 2024. Science and research R&D listings topped 3,000 in May and rose to 3,119 in June, while biotech R&D jobs jumped 42% year-over-year, extending a six-month growth streak.
The report also notes a rise in mergers and acquisitions and initial public offerings in the first half of 2026, which the authors view as a positive sign for industry health.
