Medicare delay adds seven years before AbbVie drug price talks, advocacy group says

A consumer advocacy group says a policy change by the Trump administration delayed Medicare’s selection of an AbbVie drug for price negotiations by seven years.

The delay occurred as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services prepared a new round of negotiations under the Inflation Reduction Act, which was enacted in 2022 to curb rising drug costs.

Public Citizen argues the extra years will increase costs for taxpayers because the drug will not be subject to the negotiated price ceiling until the later date.
