FDA approves Moderna's first mRNA flu vaccine for adults 50 and older

The Food and Drug Administration has granted approval to Moderna's mRNA flu vaccine, called mFlusiva and previously known as mRNA-1010, making it the first preventive flu shot built on messenger RNA technology.

The vaccine is cleared for seasonal influenza use in adults aged 50 and older, with an accelerated approval for those 65 and older that hinges on results from a post‑marketing study spanning two flu seasons.

Moderna's chief executive said the new shot offers seniors an additional protection option and showcases the broader promise of the mRNA platform to tackle public‑health challenges more swiftly.
