Federal regulators hold closed-door meetings with tech firms to advance clinical AI adoption

Federal health officials, including the FDA, CMS and HHS, convened a closed-door "clinical AI demo day" to discuss how to safely expand the use of artificial intelligence in clinical settings.

The July 8 meeting at the FDA's White Oak campus brought together leaders from ten technology firms-Anthropic, Counsel Health, Curai, K Health, Microsoft AI, Amazon One Medical, Doctronic, Ellipsis Health, Hippocratic AI and Welldoc.

Representatives from four companies-Counsel Health, K Health, Hippocratic AI and Ellipsis Health-shared their perspectives with regulators, emphasizing the need for clear guidance and pathways for AI tools to reach patients.

Officials said the dialogue is intended to shape policy that could affect how AI is incorporated into drug development, diagnostics and patient management, signalling a growing regulatory focus on digital health innovations.
