Sanofi CEO Garijo outlines R&D overhaul, M&A push and China focus to counter patent cliff

Garijo, three months into her tenure as Sanofi chief executive, shared her strategy for the company’s next phase of growth.

She said the firm will conduct a thorough cleanup of its research and development portfolio, dropping projects that are unlikely to succeed and concentrating resources on high-potential candidates.

In parallel, Sanofi will look for acquisition opportunities to broaden its pipeline and strengthen its position in therapeutic areas where it sees gaps.

A major part of the plan is to expand the company’s footprint in China, leveraging the market’s size and growth to offset the impact of upcoming patent expirations in its core products.
