FDA revokes Orange B color additive and proposes to drop Citrus Red No. 2 from food approvals

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a final order that revokes the authorized use of Orange B as a food color additive.

The agency also proposed revoking Citrus Red No. 2, a pigment authorized since 1959 for coloring orange skins, after concluding that its use has been abandoned by industry.

Officials said the actions are intended to modernize food safety regulations by removing outdated and unnecessary authorizations.

The moves are part of a broader effort by the administration to strengthen the safety of the food supply.
