ADA faces member backlash and calls for CEO and CSO resignations after expert expulsions
The American Diabetes Association’s 2026 Scientific Sessions in New Orleans ended with the expulsion of five diabetes experts, sparking a wave of criticism.
More than 200 members signed an open letter demanding the removal of CEO Charles Henderson and chief scientific and medical officer Rita Kalyani. The letter also asks for an independent investigation, a formal apology to the expelled colleagues, and restored editorial independence for the journal Diabetes Care.
In response, the ADA thanked members for their patience while it prepares a report, but it has not taken any decisive action despite the incident occurring over 45 days ago.
