ProMIS Neurosciences early trial shows low brain bleeding and no swelling, hinting at safer Alzheimer’s drug

Jul 28, 2026·read at STAT ↗Positive readoutPositive

ProMIS Neurosciences reported interim safety data from a early‑stage trial of its amyloid‑targeting therapy for Alzheimer’s disease. The analysis pooled data from participants receiving the investigational drug and those on placebo.

The overall incidence of amyloid‑related imaging abnormalities (ARIA) was 4.4%, and every case was classified as mild and asymptomatic. Notably, none of the patients experienced ARIA‑E, the more severe form that leads to brain swelling.

These findings suggest the candidate may carry a lower risk of the brain bleeding and swelling that have limited the use of existing amyloid‑clearing medicines, potentially offering a safer treatment option for patients.

The company plans to continue evaluating the drug in later‑stage studies to confirm efficacy and further assess safety.
