Jupiter Neurosciences signs $100M deal for U.S. rights to PharmAla's MDMA therapy ALA-002

Jul 21, 2026·read at Fierce Biotech ↗DealPositive

Jupiter Neurosciences announced a licensing agreement with Canadian biotech PharmAla Biotech to obtain U.S. rights to an MDMA‑based drug, ALA‑002, aimed at treating neuropsychiatric conditions.

The deal includes an upfront payment of $3.3 million, with additional milestone payments and royalties that could bring total consideration to about $100 million, including $3.3 million for advancing to a Phase 3 trial and $20 million upon FDA approval.

ALA‑002 is a patented, non‑racemic formulation of MDMA being investigated for treatment‑resistant PTSD, anxiety and related disorders, and is already used in Veterans Affairs and Defense Health Agency trials in the United States.

Jupiter said the acquisition expands its central nervous system pipeline and adds a differentiated clinical‑stage asset that complements its existing focus on Parkinson’s disease.
