Veteran scientists launch nonprofit Center for Therapeutic Genetics to advance personalized gene therapies

Jul 20, 2026·read at Fierce Biotech ↗Positive

A group of experienced researchers from top institutions has created the nonprofit Center for Therapeutic Genetics (CTG) to develop personalized genetic medicines.

CTG will operate from a modest space at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, but its activities will extend across the Broad, Boston Children’s Hospital and The Jackson Laboratory in Maine.

The effort is led by Dr. Winston Yan, who previously co‑founded Arbor Biotechnologies. Yan initiated the project with a cold email to Harvard biologist Dr. David Liu, a pioneer of base editing and prime editing technologies.

The founders say the center aims to scale up custom therapies for infants born with rare genetic disorders, building on the momentum generated by the recent Baby KJ CRISPR case.
