GSK drops chronic cough drug camlipixant after mixed Phase 3 results

Jul 17, 2026·read at BioSpace ↗Negative readoutNegative

GSK announced it will stop investing in camlipixant for refractory chronic cough after the drug failed to meet key endpoints in a late-stage trial.

The company had run two Phase 3 studies, CALM-1 and CALM-2. CALM-1 showed a reduction in cough frequency at 12 weeks with the 50-mg dose, but CALM-2 did not show a significant effect, and both trials missed important secondary goals.

Because of the overall efficacy profile, GSK said camlipixant is unlikely to transform patient care and will cease development for chronic cough, though it will keep studying the compound for irritable bowel syndrome, where it remains in mid-stage trials.
