Mid-size biotech firms urge White House to scrap CMS GLOBE and GUARD pricing proposals

A group of midsized biotechnology companies met with officials from the White House and the Department of Health and Human Services this week. The companies presented a coordinated case to senior policymakers about two pending Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services pricing models.

The firms argued that the CMS "GLOBE" and "GUARD" models, which are still under development, could place undue financial strain on mid‑size biotechs. They said the proposed pricing structures do not reflect the unique cost and revenue dynamics of smaller innovators and could limit their ability to bring new therapies to market.

During the discussions, the biotech representatives asked the administration to halt or revise the rules before they are finalized. They emphasized that a more flexible approach would better support continued investment in research and development across the sector.
