Alzheimer researcher Betty Tijms urges broader view beyond amyloid and tau

For more than a century, research has focused on two proteins, amyloid and tau, that build up in the brains of patients.

Tijms argues that the disease likely includes several subtypes with different underlying mechanisms, and that a broader scientific approach is needed.

She calls for clinical trials and drug development programs to reflect this heterogeneity, aiming for more personalized treatments.
