We are looking for a User Experience Designer to join our visualization team, part of the Advanced Analytics for Business Insights (AABI) Center of Excellence within GPS. The visualization team is responsible for providing the vision, strategy, and hands-on leadership in visual analytics and leveraging them to generate high-impact business insights.
The User Experience Designer is a visualization expert with an extensive portfolio of projects where their visual analytics were successfully used to generate insights. Your key goal will be to design exceptional, user-centered, and intuitive experiences across digital devices. To succeed, you will need a mix of customer focus, creative talent, data literacy, and a passion for leveraging modern AI tools to accelerate design cycles.
The Opportunity
• Accelerate Design with AI: Leverage cutting-edge, AI-driven UX/UI tools (e.g., AI-assisted wireframing, automated asset generation, predictive user testing) to dramatically shorten turnaround times from ideation to high-fidelity mock-ups.
• Rapid Prototyping & Iteration: Enable ultra-fast prototyping and real-time visual adjustments to keep pace with the rapidly changing pharmaceutical and data environments.
• Influence & Motivate Without Authority: Act as the strategic heart of cross-functional squads to energize, align, and motivate diverse stakeholders (Data Scientists, Product Owners, Business Leaders) toward a unified, user-centric vision without relying on hierarchical power.
• Synthesize Complex Requirements: Translate mixed, highly technical, and potentially conflicting inputs into elegant, accessible, and intuitive visual analytics designs.
• Lead Visual Implementation: Serve as the visual architect in analytical projects, providing proactive guidance and creative solutions to complex user experience challenges while positioning different technologies effectively to create a highly coherent, seamless user experience across Roche’s entire analytical product portfolio.
• Collaborate Dynamically: Work hand-in-hand with Dev Teams, Business Analysts, Project Managers, Scrum Masters, and end-users to translate complex medical and commercial data into highly functional development concepts.
• Drive Business Value: Think beyond individual projects to focus heavily on outcomes that maximize business value, while engaging regularly in peer mentorship, coaching, and advocacy.
Who You Are
• Education & Experience: You hold a Bachelor's degree in Design (e.g., interaction, graphic, visual communications, product), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience, backed by a minimum of 5 years of UX design/visual analytics experience (with at least 3 years deeply embedded within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry).
• Proven Design Portfolio: You possess an online portfolio demonstrating a proven track record of designing high-impact analytical dashboards, complex data visualizations, or mobile/web data applications, alongside impeccable professional ethics and corporate integrity.
• AI & Technical Tech Stack: You have demonstrated experience using AI utilities (e.g., generative design tools, AI-powered user testing simulators, advanced prototyping plugins) to optimize workflow efficiency, and proven experience designing for or working with visual analytics platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, Thoughtspot, D3.js, iOS apps, and web apps powered by R (Shiny) or Python (Dash/Streamlit).
• Data Literacy: You possess deep familiarity with global pharmaceutical data streams (syndicated sales, promotional & marketing data, longitudinal patient-level data, and payer data), with knowledge of primary market research or clinical/medical research data being a major plus.
• Leadership & Soft Skills: You have a mastery of influence to champion conceptual ideas and rally cross-functional teams without direct authority, thrive in fast-paced environments managing tight timelines through agile methodology, possess exceptional communication skills to distill complex data concepts for executive stakeholders, and are flexible to undertake required business travel for regular internal and external meetings.
