Job Description

The Captain serves as Pilot in Command (PIC) for domestic and international flight operations, exercising final authority for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of company aircraft. This position is responsible for ensuring each mission is conducted in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations, international operating requirements, company policies, and Standard Operating Procedures.

The Captain leads assigned flight crews while fostering a culture of safety, professionalism, teamwork, and exceptional customer service. This role requires sound judgment, strong leadership, and the ability to safely manage complex flight operations worldwide while providing a premium travel experience for company executives and guests.

As a Captain - Large Cabin, at Gilead you will ...

• Currently reside within 2.5 hrs of San Jose, CA or be willing to relocate.

• Exercise final authority and responsibility for the safe operation of assigned aircraft.

• Conduct domestic and international flight operations in full compliance with company policies, FAA regulations, and applicable international aviation requirements.

• Supervise, mentor, and lead assigned flight crew members while promoting effective Crew Resource Management (CRM) and a positive safety culture.

• Plan and oversee all aspects of flight preparation, including:

-Flight planning -Aircraft performance analysis -Weather evaluation -Fuel planning -Aircraft readiness -Required publications and onboard equipment -Customs, immigration, permits, and international operating requirements -Airport and runway suitability

• Ensure all required flight documentation is complete, accurate, and current prior to departure.

• Verify that all crew members and passengers possess the required travel documentation, including passports, visas, and other applicable entry requirements.

• Ensure the safety, security, comfort, and service expectations of all passengers throughout each mission.

• Make operational decisions that prioritize safety while balancing efficiency and customer service.

• Maintain all required FAA certificates, type ratings, medical certification, training, and operational currency.

• Participate in the department’s Safety Management System (SMS), including hazard identification, safety reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Support departmental projects, committees, and other assignments as directed by department leadership.

• Represent the Flight Department with the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and customer service.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree and Eight Years' Experience OR Masters' Degree and Six Years' Experience

• FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate required

• Current type rating in at least one aircraft operated by the Gilead Flight Department, or the ability to obtain one upon hire

• Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate required

• Flight Experience with 5,000 hours total flight time AND 3,000 hours Pilot in Command AND 2,000 hours multi-engine turbine

• Gulfstream experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Business, or a related field preferred

• Five years of corporate aviation experience preferred

• Significant international flight operations experience

• Experience operating long-range business aircraft

• Demonstrated leadership and Crew Resource Management (CRM) skills

• Experience operating within an BASC/IS-BAO and Safety Management System (SMS) environment

• Strong decision-making and risk management skills

• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service abilities

• Experience supporting executive level passengers in a corporate aviation environment

• Ability to obtain and maintain worldwide travel eligibility, including a valid passport and visas as required

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, extended trips, and short-notice travel

• Ability to successfully complete company required background checks, security clearances, and recurrent training

• Ability to lift 50 pounds and move passenger baggage and aircraft supplies in accordance with company safety guidelines

• Ability to perform all essential duties in a dynamic operational environment while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and discretion

The salary range for this position is: $243,100.00 - $314,600.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
