The Role: The Senior Director of Digital Operations and Strategic Portfolio Management will serve as a pivotal 'force multiplier' within Moderna, driving the execution of strategic digital initiatives and ensuring alignment with the broader operational priorities of the company.
Situated at the core of the leadership team, this role is responsible for the operational delivery of Moderna's Digital Agenda, enabling the CIO to concentrate on primary objectives while effectively managing digital strategy, operations, and talent. The position demands a data-centric approach to portfolio leadership, focusing on leveraging operational insights to drive strategic initiatives and ensure their alignment with the company's mission.
This role will own and drive strategic cross-functional programs requiring diligent project management to facilitate change within the digital organization—and across the company. Successful execution in this role combines leadership, strategy, operations, and delivery. Based in our new state-of-the-art, LEED-certified headquarters in Cambridge, MA, this position requires onsite presence >70% of the time with up to 30% flexibility to work from home. Role requires travel up to 20%, primarily to Seattle, WA.
Here’s What You’ll Do: Data-Driven Strategy:
• Act as a functional champion as part of Moderna’s strategic Long Range Planning (LRP) process, integrating data analytics to align digital efforts with business priorities and corporate goals, demonstrating our act with urgency mindset to capitalize on strategic opportunities.
• Formulate and manage a data-centric business investment strategy that underpins business decisions with robust analysis of value and risk, reflecting a push past possible mindset to transcend traditional strategic limitations.
• Navigate and influence the digital operations strategy within a matrixed organization using data as the cornerstone for decision-making, applying our remove viscosity mindset to ensure smooth and effective decision flows.
• Reconcile competing digital priorities by leveraging data insights, ensuring cohesion with Moderna's broader strategic imperatives, and employing a pivot fearlessly approach to adapt strategies as needed.
Operational Execution:
• Drive functional and cross-functional strategic digital initiatives, grounded in data and aligned with the company's mission and vision, embodying the behave like owners principle.
• Lead program management and organizational change within the digital operations domain, advocating for data-driven methodologies and the integration of advanced analytics, showcasing an obsess over learning dedication to continual improvement.
• Propel digital operations and strategic portfolio management with a focus on delivery, innovation, operational analytics, and strategic congruence, continuously questioning convention to enhance operational effectiveness.
• Partner cross-functionally with other functional portfolio leaders across Moderna to increase communication, share best practices, and create consistent approaches to portfolio/PMO management, fostering a collaborative environment.
Operations Management:
• In alignment with the CIO and Digital Leadership Team, articulate a clear digital strategy vision and roadmap, supported by data analytics to monitor progress and achieve strategic targets.
• Manage the financial aspects of digital projects with a data-driven approach to budgeting, cost control, and value realization (ROI).
• Develop an operational data platform that serves as the engine for communicating organizational progress and informed decision-making.
• Establish and maintain data-driven KPIs and dashboards to measure, report, and enhance digital operations performance.
• Facilitate regular data-driven leadership meetings to ensure the digital operations model remains in sync with strategic initiatives.
• Create and own simple yet effective governance standards, utilizing data to ensure compliance and effective risk management.
People Leadership:
• Lead a small, ambitious team to ensure both the strategic and portfolio/PMO needs of the Digital organization are met.
• Create a culture of belonging, development, and innovation that brings out the best in each team member and creates space and opportunity for growth.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table: Basic Requirements:
• BA/BS degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field.
• 10+ years of experience in digital operations or IT management and strategic planning, with a demonstrated track record in digital strategy execution and portfolio management.
• Proven experience in leading digital transformation and managing large-scale technology projects.
Preferred Requirements:
• Advanced degree (MA/MS/MBA) in Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to foster a culture of innovation and manage change within a dynamic environment.
• Experience leading strategic AI Initiatives and/or Cloud Transformation
• Strong analytical and strategic planning capabilities, coupled with solid financial acumen.
• Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies, including agile practices.
• Excellent communication skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with a diverse range of teams and stakeholders.

The salary range for this role is $196,700.00 - $353,400.00. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs.
The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
