Position Summary: The Boiler Operator Technician (Night Shift) will provide people leadership to the facility & plant engineering department. The boiler technician has the ability and working knowledge of utility systems and leadership skills to drive performance. Is an advocate of designing for reliability, maintainability and operability, and other end-to-end processes associated to Reliability Engineering. Partner with other functions to improve the overall engineering process. In some instances, manage other project engineers in the execution of projects.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Checks, inspects and monitors various types of machinery, equipment and systems such as steam distribution and condensate return systems (steam traps, condensate receivers and piping), heat control panels, heat exchangers, safety valves and gauges, low water cut-outs and/or steam pressure reducing stations, gas and fuel oil delivery systems, etc., to ensure the boiler plant is operated in a safe, efficient and pollution-free manner

• Coordinate repairs, overhauls and maintains machinery and equipment by replacing burners, motors, pumps and compressors.

• Cleans and maintains work areas, plant machinery and equipment to ensure the safety and efficiency of plant operations, including but not limited to painting floors and equipment, as well as suction and discharge oil strainers, burners, boilers and pumps

• Respond to emergencies and breakdowns by the following: evaluating equipment or systems problems; identifying problems with systems covered under service contract and informing the appropriate contractor; determining what repairs are necessary and taking corrective action; deciding with Chief Boiler Engineering or Subject Matter Expert (SME) when to shut down equipment or systems; transferring from automatic to manual operation; and by operating the power plant when other systems fail to ensure uninterrupted service

• Performs related functions such as inspecting operating systems on a regular basis and identifying and reporting faulty equipment; calibrating pneumatic temperature and pressure controls systems; making entries in logs or other records of fuel consumption, temperatures, etc.; reviewing blueprints, technical manuals or other specialized material; adjusting heat levels according to outside temperatures; identifying work-related problems noted by personnel; responding to complaints; interpreting laws and codes and assessing their applicability to plant operations; attending training programs; and setting work or repair priorities

• Records information such as gauge readings, fuel consumed, steam generated, chemicals used and similar data

• Plans and oversees strategic, operational, and administrative programs, projects, and/or services of broad significance to the organization within the designated functional area of focus.

• Will partner with Chief Boiler Engineering and SME to represent the organization to governmental agencies, national organizations, and/or the general public; may represent the principal executive at various community and/or business meetings, as assigned.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2-5 years relevant experience working in manufacturing or power plant settings

• Demonstrated proficiency in managing and organize multiple complex technical projects and familiarity with the manufacturing operations of large-scale production facilities as well as GMP experience.

• Demonstrated effectiveness in both a team environment and an individual contributor role.

• Knowledgeable in engineering principles related industrial building utilities troubleshooting

• Strong facility-related (e.g. mechanical, electrical) assessment and troubleshooting skills.

• Proven record of providing excellent internal and external customer service.

• Regulatory experience and safety knowledge (understanding of OSHA requirements)

• Demonstrated communication, administrative and leadership skills with ability to work well with other departments, and effectively and efficiently lead in a team environment.

• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Ability to understand, implement, and monitor regulatory and safety guidelines applicable to the pharmaceutical industry

• Possession of a Fireman Second Class or higher license, based on the standards established by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety and pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws, is required.

Compensation Overview:

Devens - MA - US: $39.01 - $47.28per hour

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
