The Opportunity:

The Director, Strategic Sourcing serves as a strategic partner to senior leaders across External Quality, Pharmaceutical Development and Manufacturing, and related functions. The role leads sourcing and supplier strategies across the entire supply chain, translating business priorities into measurable value through cost optimization, innovation, supplier performance, risk mitigation, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute strategic sourcing and supplier portfolio strategies aligned with business priorities, pipeline needs, and enterprise objectives.

• Lead strategic sourcing for RM/KSM, RSM, API, SDD, DP, and packaging, balancing cost, quality, capacity, innovation, performance, and risk.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing market intelligence, outsourcing recommendations, and strategic supplier insights.

• Identify and deliver savings, cost avoidance, productivity improvements, and broader value creation through competitive sourcing, commercial optimization, and strategic supplier partnerships.

• Lead complex RFI/RFP/RFQ processes, supplier evaluations, negotiations, and contracting in partnership with Procurement, Legal, PDM, Finance, Quality, and business stakeholders.

• Establish and lead supplier risk management strategies, including due diligence, risk assessments, mitigation plans, escalation, and business continuity.

• Monitor the global CRO/CMO/CDMO landscape to identify emerging capabilities, technologies, market trends, capacity constraints, and strategic opportunities.

• Drive cross-functional alignment and early engagement to ensure sourcing strategies support portfolio and business planning.

• Lead supplier performance improvement, continuous improvement, and strategic sourcing initiatives that enhance efficiency, stakeholder satisfaction, and business outcomes.

• Provide executive-level reporting on sourcing strategy, supplier performance, savings, risks, opportunities, and portfolio priorities.

• Lead and develop a high-performing strategic sourcing team, fostering strategic thinking, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

• Sc. or M.Sc. in scientific field with 15+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or manufacturing environments, with 10+ years of experience managing outsourced manufacturing, strategic supplier networks, and/or supply chains.

• Demonstrated experience with small-molecule API and OSD manufacturing.

• Proven track record of leading complex, large-scale strategic initiatives and delivering measurable business outcomes.

• Extensive experience negotiating complex supplier agreements and developing strategic supplier partnerships.

• Strong executive presence with demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive alignment across diverse stakeholders.

• Proven ability to lead effectively in highly matrixed, global organizations and influence without direct authority.

• Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex priorities simultaneously.

• Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and solve complex problems through collaboration, innovation, and sound judgment.

• Strong conflict management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to navigate uncertainty, build consensus, and drive constructive resolution.

• Demonstrated leadership capability, including the ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships and lead teams and initiatives through significant organizational complexity.

Preferred Skills:

• A strong understanding of CMC development, manufacturing processes, and GMP requirements.

• Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex issues clearly to technical and executive audiences.

Base Pay Salary Range $211,000—$264,000 USD
