At AstraZeneca we turn ideas into life changing medicines. Working here means being entrepreneurial, thinking big and working together to make the impossible a reality. We are focused on the potential of science to address the unmet needs of patients around the world, and Finance is central to how we allocate resources, protect value and enable that ambition.

The Senior Finance Business Partner is the finance lead for a number of GBS service towers, accountable for the full financial management of those towers – from budgeting and planning through to month-end delivery and the achievement of financial targets. GBS delivers shared services across the enterprise, and each service tower operates, in effect, as its own P&L.

Managing each tower as a P&L, the role ensures service tower financials are balanced and that costs are fully recovered from internal customers through recharge – with recharge representing the tower’s “revenue”. It owns the end-to-end financial cycle for its towers: budget, forecast, actuals, month-end close, cost recovery and performance reporting.

Working closely with service tower leadership, customer finance teams and the wider GBS and Group finance community, the role provides insight and challenge to drive cost efficiency, protect full cost recovery, and support the decisions that deliver each tower’s financial and operational targets.

Typical accountabilities, role broadly includes the following key components: Service Tower Budgeting, Planning & Targets

• Lead the budgeting and planning cycles for the assigned GBS service towers, building robust cost and recharge plans aligned to service volumes, headcount / FTE and strategic priorities.

• Set and track delivery of each tower’s financial targets, translating operational plans into financial commitments and challenging key assumptions and cost drivers.

• Develop reliable operational and financial forecasts, ensuring resources are allocated to maximise value and that targets remain stretching but achievable.

• Partner service tower leadership to identify and drive efficiency, productivity and value-delivery opportunities.

P&L Management, Cost Recovery & Month-End

• Own the full P&L for the assigned service towers, ensuring tower financials are balanced and that costs are fully recovered from internal customers through recharge.

• Manage recharge as the tower’s revenue line – reconciling recharged income to tower cost, identifying and resolving under- or over-recovery, and protecting full cost recovery.

• Deliver accurate and timely month-end close for the towers: accruals, cost analysis, variance commentary and reporting, in line with the financial timetable.

• Provide granular, insight-led reporting that links business drivers to actual spend, forecast and recovery position.

Business Partnering, Governance & Continuous Improvement

• Act as trusted finance partner to service tower leadership and customer finance teams, communicating cost and recharge positions clearly to finance and non-finance audiences.

• Engage senior stakeholders and the broader GBS and Group finance community, presenting tower performance credibly at relevant review forums.

• Lead financial governance and risk management for the towers, ensuring compliance with AstraZeneca policies, standards and SOX controls.

• Identify and drive improvements to planning, cost-recovery and reporting processes, sharing best practice across the Finance Business Partnering network
