India HUB SiMD SW Engineer
POSITION PURPOSE: We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to building complex medical device products. This role involves building technical strategies, collaborating with technical architects, developers, and product leaders to set long-term strategic goals and drive innovation to maintain Bayer Radiology’s market advantage. This role works closely with global, cross functional teams to support compliant implementations, documentation, effective lifecycle management, and audit readiness.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader who can drive outcomes and align with Bayer's mission and values.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead technical design and development across multiple medical device products, including device adapters, DICOM/PACS interfaces, integration engines, and desktop or web applications using .NET technologies.
• Design, maintain, and modernize software architectures built using C#, .NET Framework, WPF, WinForms, WCF/SOAP services, Windows services, XML/XSD/WSDL-based integrations, and related Microsoft technologies.
• Work on communication and integration layers involving WCF, TCP/IP, web sockets, web services, PACS/DICOM-related workflows where applicable, device communication, configuration management, and service-to-service interactions.
• Participate in all phases of the project lifecycle, including requirements analysis, UML and technical documentation review, design, development, testing, deployment, maintenance, and technical troubleshooting.
• Drive GxP compliance and adherence to the software quality process, ensuring code quality, traceability, documentation, and deliverables meet regulatory standards such as IEC 62304, 21 CFR Part 11, or equivalent.
• Define and promote engineering best practices for C#, .NET, object-oriented design, service-based architecture, reusable libraries, source control, code reviews, and technical documentation.
• Drive the overall test strategy across products by defining approaches for unit, integration, end-to-end, and system testing, and championing a strong engineering test culture.
• Support build, packaging, and release activities using GitHub Actions, Artifactory, SonarQube/static analysis, MSBuild, NAnt, NSIS, batch scripts, and related tooling.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve technical issues across application, service, integration, and deployment layers.
• Lead and mentor engineers by conducting code reviews, facilitating architectural decisions and technical discussions, and supporting junior developers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including product owners, QA, regulatory affairs, DevOps, and external device vendors.
• Plan and estimate development efforts, contribute to sprint planning, maintain engineering backlogs, and use Azure DevOps, Jira, and Jama to track work and maintain requirements-to-test traceability.
WHO YOU ARE: Required
• Bachelor of Engineering (BE), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Bachelor of Science (BSc), or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Greater than 8 years’ experience in software development, design decisions and software architecture.
• Hands-on experience with .NET, C#, TypeScript, Node.js or NestJS for developing scalable software applications and services.
• Experience with desktop application technologies such as WPF, Windows Forms.
• Understanding test strategy, including writing and applying unit tests, component tests, integration tests, and system tests.
• Ability to define test coverage expectations and contribute to an engineering test culture across products.
• Understanding of Agile software development practices, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, estimation, iterative delivery, and collaboration within cross-functional Scrum teams.
• Proficient in UML and UML modeling tools; experience with Enterprise Architect is a plus.
• Experience with source control and collaborative development; GitHub exposure is preferred.
• Fundamentals of Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOA/OOD).
• Understanding and hands-on experience in handling non-functional requirements (NFRs).
• Knowledge of software engineering processes.
• Knowledge of requirements engineering.
• Experience in software estimation, scheduling, and tracking.
• Ability to collaborate and communication effectively with global, cross functional teams.
• Accountable, willing to go the extra mile style of working.
Preferred
• Experience in medical devices, healthcare, radiology, injector systems, or GxP-regulated software development.
• Familiarity with IEC 62304, 21 CFR Part 11, software validation, risk management, and audit-readiness practices.
• Experience with PACS/DICOM, HL7, clinical integration workflows, device communication, or healthcare interoperability standards.
• Experience with installer and deployment technologies such as NSIS, NAnt, Windows installers, batch scripting, and release packaging.
• Experience with C/C++ interoperability, native libraries, or hardware-adjacent software components.
• Experience with SQL scripts, configuration databases, XML-based data models, certificates, secure communication, or system diagnostics.
• Exposure to modernization of legacy .NET applications toward newer architectures, APIs, automated testing, or cloud/devops-enabled workflows.
• Experience with tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, Jama, Enterprise Architect, SonarQube, Artifactory, and GitHub Actions.
