Help Build the Future of Manufacturing and Medicine

Most manufacturing roles ask you to specialise in one part of the process. At Moderna, you'll learn the whole journey.

As a Manufacturing Associate, you'll be an integral part of the team producing Moderna's mRNA vaccines in Melbourne. Unlike many manufacturing environments where employees focus on a single stage of production, Moderna Manufacturing Associates are trained across multiple stages of the process, providing rare end-to-end exposure and development opportunities.

From product formulation and manufacturing through to packaging and final product release activities, you'll gain exposure across the end-to-end production lifecycle. This variety creates exceptional learning opportunities while helping us maintain the agility required in a world-class advanced manufacturing facility.

We're not looking for people who want to own one step of the process. We're looking for people who want to understand and contribute to the entire manufacturing journey.

Working in a highly automated and digital environment, you'll operate sophisticated equipment, solve technical problems, support continuous improvement initiatives and collaborate across functions to ensure every batch meets the highest standards of quality and compliance.

If you're someone who enjoys learning new skills, adapting to new challenges, working with advanced technology and being part of something bigger than yourself, we'd love to hear from you.

About Moderna Joining Moderna means helping shape the future of medicine. You'll work alongside exceptional teams advancing mRNA science while building a career that combines cutting-edge technology, advanced manufacturing and meaningful impact for patients around the world.

Moderna is strengthening Australia's biotech landscape through a long-term partnership focused on pandemic resilience. Our Melbourne-based mRNA vaccine manufacturing facility will support rapid response to future health threats while creating skilled jobs and developing local talent. We welcome professionals ready to help advance global health security.

You will work within a highly technological, cGMP-regulated manufacturing environment where precision, curiosity, adaptability and operational discipline are essential. Beyond executing day-to-day production activities, you will troubleshoot equipment, process and digital issues, contribute to investigations and CAPAs, apply performance tools against operational KPIs, and actively participate in continuous improvement and innovation.

This is a shift-based role within a 24/7 manufacturing environment, requiring flexibility across roster schedules including afternoon and night shifts, weekends and public holidays. Roster cycles may change in response to production demand, and flexibility to work overtime and adjust shift patterns will be required.

Here's What You'll Do

• Practice safe work habits and consistently adhere to Moderna's safety procedures and guidelines.

• Follow required gowning procedures and maintain excellent housekeeping standards within your assigned area to support a compliant and safe working environment.

• Execute manufacturing operations in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and approved manufacturing documentation.

• Operate production equipment supporting Moderna's mRNA vaccine manufacturing activities with a high degree of technical precision and attention to detail.

• Participate in incident investigations, Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) activities, helping translate findings into stronger and more reliable manufacturing operations.

• Partner closely with Quality Assurance colleagues to support closure of the documentation required for the timely disposition of commercial batches.

• Apply established performance tools while working collaboratively with colleagues to achieve operational KPI objectives.

• Respond rapidly to operational challenges and troubleshoot routine equipment, process and digital issues.

• Proactively identify and report compliance, health and safety issues to the Manufacturing Supervisor.

• Maintain training records and associated documentation accurately and ensure they remain up to date.

• Perform routine basic equipment maintenance, including lubrication, basic mechanical checks and filter changes, using appropriate hand tools.

• Participate in multiple projects and continuous improvement initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

• Bring digital proficiency to a highly technological production setting, actively contributing ideas for improvements and innovation.

• Build familiarity with evolving digital capabilities, including opportunities to engage with Generative AI tools where appropriate, to support learning, problem-solving, knowledge access and operational improvement within approved Moderna processes.

• Collaborate effectively within a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment, working fluidly with peers, leadership, Quality and other cross-functional support groups.

• Maintain meticulous attention to detail while managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

• Demonstrate flexibility to work overtime and adjust shift patterns in line with operational requirements.

• Work effectively across rotating roster schedules in a 24/7 manufacturing environment, including afternoon and night shifts, weekends and public holidays, with roster cycles subject to change based on production demand.

• Actively contribute to operational excellence while demonstrating Moderna's values of Bold, Collaborative, Curious and Relentless in the workplace.

The Key Moderna Mindsets You'll Need to Succeed "We digitize everywhere possible using the power of code to maximize our impact on patients." "We behave like owners. The solutions we're building go beyond any job description."

Who Thrives at Moderna? This role is ideal for someone early in their manufacturing career who is eager to learn, enjoys variety, and wants exposure across the full manufacturing process rather than a highly defined or repetitive scope of work. You'll thrive here if you:

• Enjoy learning new skills and working across different stages of a manufacturing operation.

• Are naturally curious and enjoy understanding how things work.

• Adapt quickly when priorities or production requirements change.

• Take ownership of problems and proactively look for solutions.

• Enjoy working with technology in a highly automated environment.

• Value teamwork and are willing to support where the business needs you most.

• Are comfortable working in a rotating shift environment, including afternoon and night shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table

• A degree or qualification in Science, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline.

• Experience working in a manufacturing, production, laboratory, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food, beverage, medical device or other regulated environment.

• Exposure to GMP environments through industry experience, internships, placements or graduate employment will be highly regarded.

• A strong willingness to learn and develop capability across multiple manufacturing processes.

• An adaptable and flexible approach to work, with the ability to move between different operational activities as required.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Confidence working with technology and digital systems.

• Excellent written, verbal and organisational skills.

• Ability to collaborate fluidly with peers, leadership and cross-functional support groups.

• Experience in audit/inspection preparation and an understanding of health authority and regulatory guidelines is advantageous.

• Aseptic experience, Visual Inspection and PFS knowledge preferred.

• Demonstrated commitment to Moderna's values of Bold, Collaborative, Curious and Relentless, embodying these values in the workplace.

• Demonstrated ability and willingness to work across rotating shifts, including afternoon and night shifts, in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

As part of Moderna's commitment to workplace health and safety, this role may be subject to pre-employment and periodic medical assessments, in line with relevant legal and operational requirements.
