Based within the In Vivo Sciences department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, this position bridges day-to-day veterinary operations with our core mission: enabling high-quality scientific research while upholding the highest standards of animal welfare.
This role is a 2-year temporary assignment with potential opportunities for extension or conversion to a fixed-term position as our operations evolve.
The Opportunity
• Clinical Services & Case Management: Provide general medical oversight and case management in rodents and rabbits on site incl. associated documentation, prioritizing clinical emergencies during working hours and participating in the veterinary on-call rotation (Pikett)
• Veterinary Excellence: Safeguard best practice in RICB Animal Care and Use Program by supporting and advising staff of the Department and other in vivo functions
• Health Monitoring Coordination: Coordinating and conducting routine colony health monitoring in collaboration with external diagnostic labs and animal care staff; conducting action items in case of findings
• Pharmacy & Inventory Control: Oversee the veterinary pharmacy and ensure compliant management and documentation of controlled substances and non-prescription drugs according to regulatory standards. Manage routine orders for veterinary medications, supplies, and consumables
• Equipment & Technical Support: Act as a point of contact for the operational support, basic troubleshooting, and maintenance coordination of veterinary medical equipment
• Administration & Quality Assurance: Handle standard administrative duties, including the generation of purchase orders, invoice verification, and the maintaining of relevant SOPs
• Cross-Functional & Flexible Collaboration: Interaction with internal and external collaborators to support animal welfare and facility operations, such as contributing to routine safety checks, depending on project needs
Who You Are
• Education: Successfully completed university degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM / med. vet. or equivalent)
• Experience: Ideally 2+ years of postgraduate experience in in vivo research, laboratory animal science (e.g., doctoral thesis / Dr. med. vet., PhD, Postdoc) or relevant clinical experience
• Skills & Core Competencies: Excellent team player with a collaborative mindset, highly organized, and capable of structuring tasks in a complex, multi-stakeholder laboratory environment
• Languages: Fluent in professional written and spoken English. Proficient or communicative German is a distinct advantage given local supplier and laboratory coordination
