ROLE TITLE: Medical Directory- Eosinophilic Diseases LOCATION: Wilmington, DE - Minimum 3 days per week onsite. No remote option available for this role.

The Director, Medical Affairs (DMA) – Eosinophilic Diseases is a strategic medical leader responsible for translating scientific and patient insights into an integrated US medical plan across eosinophilic diseases. The DMA will partner closely with the Senior Medical Director and lead high-impact work across medical strategy, evidence generation and dissemination, field medical enablement, external engagement, congresses, and omnichannel scientific education.

Success requires strong scientific judgment, strategic thinking, disciplined execution, digital fluency, and the ability to influence across a complex matrix while preserving the independence and integrity of Medical Affairs. This role reports to the Senior Medical Director, US Eosinophilic Diseases.

What you will do Medical strategy and evidence

• Partner with the Senior Medical Director to develop, operationalize, and measure the US medical strategy and annual medical plan across relevant eosinophilic diseases.

• Translate external stakeholder insights, field medical insights, and emerging evidence into actionable medical initiatives, educational programs, and scientific communications.

• Contribute to lifecycle evidence planning, publication strategy, and scientific dissemination activities.

• Provide medical leadership within cross-portfolio respiratory initiatives, ensuring a coherent scientific narrative across disease areas and channels.

Omnichannel scientific engagement and innovation

• Lead modern scientific engagement strategies that use data, digital channels, and stakeholder insights to improve the relevance, reach, and impact of medical education

• Own the medical strategy and lifecycle management for digital scientific resources, including content planning, scientific review, launch readiness, optimization, and ongoing updates.

• Use compliant engagement data and stakeholder insights to evaluate reach, usefulness, and scientific impact; translate learnings into content and channel optimization.

External engagement, advocacy, and congresses

• Develop and execute ESE engagement plans in partnership with field medical teams, translating stakeholder insights into actionable medical strategies, evidence priorities, and educational initiatives.

• Lead medical planning and execution for priority US congresses, including scientific engagement objectives, medical education, evidence dissemination, cross-functional coordination, and post-congress insight synthesis.

• Plan and execute US advisory boards and other structured scientific-exchange activities in response to defined strategic questions and evidence gaps.

• Participate directly in selected scientific exchanges, advisory boards, congress interactions, and advocacy engagements.

• Partner with advocacy and Corporate Affairs colleagues on appropriate disease-state education and initiatives that address unmet patient and healthcare-system needs.

• Contribute medical expertise to the review and selection of independent medical education and grant-supported activities, consistent with applicable standards and processes.

Field medical enablement and scientific communications

• Translate strategy into clear priorities, scientific narratives, and practical engagement resources for Medical Science Liaisons and other field medical colleagues.

• Lead development, review, and lifecycle management of medical content and scientific narratives supporting field medical, congress, advisory board, and external scientific engagement activities.

• Partner with field medical leadership to design training, capture actionable insights, identify evidence or education gaps, and close the loop between field learning and medical strategy.

• Facilitate medical team meetings, strategic workshops, and cross-functional forums that drive decisions, accountability, and timely execution.

Cross-functional leadership and operational excellence

• Serve as a trusted medical partner to Commercial, Market Access, Corporate Affairs, Regulatory, Clinical Development, and other functions, providing independent scientific perspectives and appropriate medical challenges.

• Manage assigned medical budget and forecasts; make disciplined trade-offs based on strategic value, scientific impact, feasibility, and resource constraints.

• Assist in defining success measures for major initiatives, monitor execution and impact, communicate progress to leadership, and adapt plans based on evidence and insights.

• Ensure activities and materials comply with applicable US laws, regulations, industry standards, AstraZeneca policies, and Medical Affairs governance.

Essential requirements

• Advanced degree in medicine, pharmacy, pharmacology, life sciences, or a related scientific field.

• At least 3 years of experience leading complex programs in a matrixed team environment, including meaningful experience in Medical Affairs, clinical development, field medical, or a closely related function.

• Demonstrated ability to develop strategy and translate it into prioritized plans, decisions, and measurable execution.

• Strong scientific and clinical acumen in biologics; respiratory, immunology, rare disease, or eosinophilic disease experience is highly relevant.

• Experience developing scientifically rigorous medical content and communicating complex evidence to internal and external audiences.

• Demonstrated cross-functional leadership, strategic influencing, stakeholder management, and ability to constructively challenge and align diverse partners.

• Excellent program, budget, vendor, and risk-management capabilities with strong attention to quality and detail.

• Highly developed written, verbal, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Sound judgment and working knowledge of the US Medical Affairs compliance environment, including the principles governing nonpromotional scientific exchange.

Desirable requirements

• Doctoral degree such as MD, DO, PharmD, PhD, or equivalent; MBA or formal training in strategy, digital, analytics, or innovation is a plus.

• Experience in a medical strategy-setting role for an in-line brand, launch, or lifecycle indication.

• Experience designing or leading omnichannel medical education, digital scientific platforms, content journeys, or channel measurement.

• Experience with US congress strategy, advisory boards, professional societies, patient advocacy, independent medical education, and/or external expert engagement.

• Familiarity with FDA requirements and relevant US industry standards for scientific communications and interactions with healthcare professionals.

• Working knowledge of digital platforms, analytics, information systems, social listening, and responsible use of AI in Medical Affairs.

Pay Transparency The annual base pay for this position could range from $215,693 – $265,353 USD Annual. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered include a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans.
