Summary
At BMS, the Medical Engagement Excellence (MedEngageX) team is positioned within the Medical Excellence (MedEx) organization. MedEngageX plays a critical role in ensuring that healthcare professionals are educated on the appropriate use of our medicines and have the information they need to improve outcomes for patients. We develop strategies, tools, and guidance to empower our medical teams (Home Office, Market Field Medical [FM], and Medical Engagement Leads [MELs]) around the globe to ensure that they are aware, informed, engaged, and equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform their roles effectively and compliantly. Directors within MedEngageX serve as strategic partners across the medical organization, connecting global medical strategy with coordinated execution in the field to drive consistent, high-impact customer engagement.
Key Accountabilities
• Report to the Senior Director, International Markets Medical Engagement Excellence within the Medical Engagement Excellence (MedEngageX) team.
• Serve as an active partner to global medical strategic planning through participation in Pumitamig and Thoracic Cancers Asset Indication Medical Strategy (AIMS) teams and its Working Groups, launch teams, and other cross-functional teams—informing medical strategy development, driving and leveraging medical insights, and representing the voice of Field Medical (FM) teams across global markets, including alignment of engagement priorities and coordination of customer-facing activities through Medical Engagement Leads (MELs).
• Facilitate the pull though of medical strategies/initiatives relevant to the (field) medical teams in support of the medical objectives for Pumitamig and Thoracic Cancers, to ensure aligned and coordinated customer engagement across field roles.
• Partner with WW Medical, WW Medical Learning teams to ensure effective communication and the pull through of the scientific narrative(s) and Patient Outcome Imperatives (POIs) for Pumitamig and Thoracic Cancers.
• Partner with WW Medical to ensure strategic alignment and focus of topics and data relevant for scientific exchange, and for the development of corresponding Medical Communication Topics (MCTs) and insights.
• Foster collective efforts across matrix and market medical teams to optimize medical insight quality, analysis, communications and reporting; accountable for high functioning global Fast Insight Review (FIRe) teams, Insights to Action process and evolving this process with the implementation of AI enabled tools.
• Build strong partnerships with Global Drug Development, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), and Medical Evidence Generation teams to ensure field medical teams are equipped with the direction, training, communication, and resources needed to support priority BMS-sponsored studies.
• Identify and drive opportunities to optimize, innovate, and standardize deliverables and ways of working across TAs, assets, and indications—ensuring visibility and maximizing the value of MedEngageX and field medical teams as customer-facing partners in the organization.
Strategy
• Accountable for FM therapeutic area strategies, guidance, franchise resources, WW FM study support and input into scientific data training in partnership with the Medical Learning team for prioritized new data disclosures.
• Contribute to and shape insights informed Disease Area Medical Strategies through active participation in AIMS, TA forums, and cross-functional planning, ensuring strong Field Medical & MEL input into WW strategies and plans.
• Partner with Medical Outcomes & Impact team to define Medical Care Gaps (MCGs), Patient Outcome Imperatives (POIs), FM priority Medical Communication Topics (pMCTs) and priority Insight Categories (pICs) as well as general MCTs and ICs for stakeholder interactions and insight collection.
• Provide clear direction to market medical teams with external engagement to drive overall execution of scientific communication for the therapeutic area
• Develop and lead the strategy for global Fast Insight Review (FIRe) forums in alignment with medical matrix stakeholders; facilitate FIRe meetings, prepare summary and insight reports, and ensure timely follow-up of Insights to Action plans.
Execution
• Ensure the WW Medical Strategy is reflected in the development of the FM communications and training plans for Pumitamig and Thoracic Cancers.
• Partner with Medical Communications teams to ensure coordination for timely development of high-quality customer-facing materials that meet field needs and reflect internal strategy.
• Lead FM support for congresses, including session coverage, medical insights and booth activities.
• Partner with Global Clinical Operations (GCO) and Medical Evidence Generation (MEG) to coordinate regional FM study support and ensure field enablement & effective execution.
• Provide input into Medical Communications strategy and Field Medical deployment models across geographies to ensure appropriate scientific engagement across lifecycle stages.
• Align with global and regional team and Country Medical Directors/Disease Area Heads/FM FLMs (CMDs/DAHs/FM First Line Managers) to ensure appropriate lifecycle-based deployment of FM Team across markets as appropriate
• Collaborate with WW Medical teams to select appropriate channels for thought leader (TL) interactions and facilitates integration and review of TL feedback and insights to inform actionable plans.
• Collaborate with WW Medical teams to maximize the value of medical customer engagements.
• Demonstrate consistent ethical and professional behavior and ensures compliance with GMA SOPs, GCP and ICH, Compliance policies and procedures and BMS Compliance Code of Conduct, as well as with legal and ethical standards.
Communications & Value Demonstration
• Ensure alignment with key stakeholders on medical external engagement strategy and related activities.
• Partner with Market Medical leads, Market medical teams, WW Medical teams, and Medical Operations to define clear objectives and measures of success.
• Define and demonstrate the value of medical engagement and scientific communication through measurable impact, including demonstration of impact from coordinated, customer-centric engagement approaches.
• Facilitate FM best practice sharing and implementation across TAs and markets.
• Foster communication and alignment with alliance partners.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
• Advanced medical/scientific background (PhD, MD, PharmD) with 5+ years of experience within Medical Affairs in Pharma or Biotech company required.
• Experience in working on global or above-market level preferred.
• Therapeutic area expertise in oncology (solid tumor oncology) or related fields strongly preferred.
• Ability to lead and influence across a complex, matrixed, and diverse organization, including collaboration across alliance partner, Medical and Commercial functions as well as across multiple Markets.
• Experience in developing medical strategy and objectives for an asset portfolio.
• Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data and leverage advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools to generate insights and communicate effectively—both written and verbal—in English.
• Advanced presentation skills required.
• Ability to innovate and adapt in a fast-paced, evolving environment, including rapid learning and adoption of new capabilities such as AI-enabled tools to enhance efficiency and impact.
• Knowledge of regulatory policy & guidance for medical communications in the industry.
• Understanding of the medical landscape and industry trends, and their implications for business strategy.
• Proficiency with tools and technologies used to communicate and train large medical audiences, both live and remotely.
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20%.

The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
